Liberty Banquet

 BRIEF HISTORY

As early as 1969, members of the association saw the need to organize a dinner to host the American veterans.  On many occasions, we have organized this banquet at the covered market without benefit from any exterior help, despite our soliciting help from the Landing Beach Committee.  In 1984, the association organized 2 banquets, one offered by the association, the other by the American veterans wanting to thank their hosts.  A tradition which continued until the Landing Beach Committee accepted to invite to the banquet all veterans and active military in attendance.  Since then, the dinner has become a veritable event in which veterans, active military from different nationalities and the general public are gathered together.  Since several years, this banquet is organized under the sole responsibility of the association with a financial contribution from the town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise and the Airborne Museum.

Each year, this large event of French-American friendship reunites between 900 and 1200 participants.  American, French, British, Dutch, Belgium and German paratroopers attend along with people coming from all different horizons.

In 2014, the banquet was a spectacular event with over 1300 attendees including our dear veterans and active American, French, German and Dutch paratroopers.  The Holland American Legion Band opened the banquet playing the national hymns and the 82nd Airborne Choir had everyone on their feet dancing till the end.
